RMaterials Co., Ltd. is a Korean materials startup that develops ultra-thin non-combustible sheets (NCS) to stop battery fires from spreading. Only 0.2 mm thick, the NCS is simply attached to the inside of a battery pack cover or an electronic device housing; if a cell catches fire inside, the sheet keeps the flames from breaking through to the outside. It withstands a 1,200°C flame for more than 10 minutes, and in an evaluation by a Korean customer with annual sales of around KRW 1 trillion using the UL 2596 thermal runaway test method, it withstood up to 9 cycles without burn-through. The sheet is flexible, easy to process and free of RoHS-restricted substances, and a mass-production system is in place. Applications include EV and ESS battery packs, drones, power tools, portable batteries and marine interiors. At TechGALA, we look forward to meeting Japanese manufacturers, sales and processing partners, and investors.
