SoraMaterials is a deep-tech startup spun out of Nagoya University that is advancing the research, development and commercialization of ultra-lightweight materials, new materials so light they can float in air. With an extremely low density of 0.5 to 10 times that of air, the material also combines multiple functions such as thermal insulation, sound absorption and electromagnetic wave shielding and absorption, making it uniquely capable of being both ultra-lightweight and highly functional. It also has a certain degree of strength, keeping its shape and remaining easy to handle even at ultra-low density, and its high moldability allows it to be processed into shapes close to the final product. Particularly in aerospace and mobility, it has the potential to become an innovative solution to societal needs such as better fuel efficiency, quieter operation and electromagnetic interference countermeasures. We are proposing materials in a lightweight range that has never existed before and taking on the challenge of creating new industrial value.
