An ophthalmologist and developer of retinal regenerative medicine using iPS cells.
Having worked across clinical practice at the university hospital, the basic research institute, and entrepreneurship spanning therapeutic development and business, I consider healthcare issues and solutions based on firsthand experience in all these fields.
In 2014, we made global news by applying iPS cells to humans for the first time. Recently, as part of robotic biology, we generated widespread interest by using AI to transfer the delicate, craftsman-like cell culture techniques required for cell manufacturing in regenerative medicine to humanoid robots. Currently, as an entrepreneur, I am working to address regulatory obstacles in medical development and systemic issues in healthcare. Major advancements are anticipated here through AI as well; while pioneering new paths is always challenging, I continue to move forward while enjoying the journey.
