Masahiko Demura is Director of the Advanced Engineering and Services Division at National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS). He leads the digital transformation of materials research by integrating data, computation, and AI to accelerate research and expand its possibilities. He also contributed to science and innovation policy through Japan’s Strategic Innovation Promotion Program at the Cabinet Office. From building research data infrastructure to realizing “AI for Materials,” he works across academia, public research, and industry to accelerate the journey from materials discovery to real-world application. He holds a doctorate in engineering.
