In chronic kidney disease (CKD), existing medications are insufficient to adequately control disease progression in some patients, highlighting the need for new treatments. This research focuses on uremic substances produced by gut bacteria and aims to commercialize a new technology that controls their production from the source by inhibiting the enzymes (TPL/TIL) involved in their synthesis. Unlike conventional intestinal adsorbents, targeting specific enzymes aims to create a new treatment option that can be used in combination with existing renal protective drugs. Focusing on drug discovery in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, and with an eye on applications in the food and healthcare fields, this research aims to contribute to extending the healthy lifespan of kidney disease patients.
